How to prepare a cover for Amazon KDP
A KDP cover must match the final trim size, paper type and page count exactly. The editor includes KDP checks and lets you use the official template as a reference layer.
Set up the book first
Choose Paperback or Hardcover, enter the final trim size and page count, and select the correct paper. Later changes may alter the spine and shift the front cover, back cover and text.
Bleed and safe areas
Backgrounds that reach the edge must extend through the bleed. Text, ISBN and important elements should stay inside the safe area. Preflight identifies objects that enter risk zones.
Final file
For the final KDP file, do not export guides, crop marks or fold marks unless specifically required. The editor warns about incompatible settings and can generate vector PDF when the required server engine is available.
