A complete guide to cover design, prepress, importing and exporting without missing critical production steps.
Getting started
Create a project, choose the platform and cover type, then set trim size, page count and paper. Design after the specification is correct; if dimensions change later, use reflow and run preflight again.
Saving and recovery
Work is saved locally in your browser. When you sign in, projects synchronize with your YRV Design account and remain separated by user. Signing in or creating an account is required to download a cover.
Spine, bleed and safe zones
The spine can be calculated from paper and page count or set manually. Bleed extends backgrounds past the trim. Safe zones protect text and important elements from cutting and folding tolerances.
Text and fonts
Change font family, size, weight, italic, underline, strike-through, tracking, line height and alignment. For portable delivery, upload the font to the project when it is not an embedded font.
Images and SVG
Images show effective DPI and support crop, fit and filters. Editable SVG elements can expose individual fills, strokes and effects. Keep proportions locked when you do not want distortion.
ISBN / EAN-13
Add a Barcode element and enter 12 digits to calculate the check digit, or enter a valid 13-digit code. Preflight flags invalid codes.
PDF import
Use Exact reference to preserve appearance or Hybrid editable to reconstruct recoverable elements. If server tools are unavailable, the editor uses the browser engine when possible.
Preflight
Check platform rules, safe zones, DPI, off-canvas objects, fonts, barcodes and references before export. Use Locate to jump directly to a problematic object.
Export
SVG preserves vectors. Vector PDF uses the server engine when available. Raster PDF/PNG allow a DPI choice. For final KDP delivery, do not include guides or marks unless explicitly requested.
Shortcuts
Ctrl/Cmd+Z undo; Shift+Ctrl/Cmd+Z or Ctrl/Cmd+Y redo; Ctrl/Cmd+D duplicate; Ctrl/Cmd+G group; Shift+Ctrl/Cmd+G ungroup; Ctrl/Cmd+A select; Ctrl/Cmd+S save; Delete removes; arrow keys move; Shift moves faster.
